Judging from the mainstream definition of domestic compulsory education physical education courses, the six major categories of special sports skills usually refer to ball sports, track and field sports, gymnastics sports, water and ice and snow sports, traditional Chinese sports, and emerging sports. However, this classification is not a unified standard answer in the industry. Many practitioners in competitive sports training will adjust the classification logic according to the application scenarios. For example, separate fighting and shooting categories as major categories, and replace emerging sports or some traditional sports in the universal classification. It is not wrong. After all, the core definition of specialized sports skills is "specialized ability to adapt to specific sports scenarios." It is normal for the classification standards to change according to the usage scenarios.
I have led the sports team in middle school for almost ten years. When I talk with my colleagues, most of them still think that the six categories in the curriculum are more suitable for ordinary sports enthusiasts and school students to understand. There is no high threshold and they cover all sports scenes. Needless to say, ball sports, whether it is basketball, football, volleyball, or small-ball badminton, table tennis, or tennis, all are practiced in dynamic reactions, hand-foot coordination, and tactical awareness. Last week in the basketball league of the first grade of our school, a boy who usually practiced badminton switched to playing guard halfway. His flexibility was higher than that of a child who has practiced basketball for two years. In essence, the specific abilities of ball games are interoperable.
In addition to the familiar ball games, track and field is the foundation of all sports. Don’t think that track and field is as monotonous as running a marathon or throwing a shot put. The explosive power of sprinting, the control of the air in jumping training, and the core force of throwing training are actually the basis of all special skills. When I was training, no matter what the team members were, they had to take two classes every week to practice basic track and field movements. Once the foundation is laid, the progress will be much faster if you practice special sports.
When many people hear gymnastics, they think of the difficult moves in the Olympics and dare not touch them for fear of injury. In fact, the broadcast exercises, forward rolls on mats, and balance beam walking that we usually do are all basic special skills of gymnastics. The core training is body control. The year before last, we opened a semester of fun gymnastics classes for lower grades. The probability of students' sports injuries dropped by almost 70% throughout the semester. When children fall, they know to subconsciously curl up to protect their heads. This is the benefit of implementing skills.
In recent years, the popularity of water, ice and snow sports has increased rapidly. Indoor ski resorts and constant-temperature swimming pools have opened everywhere in shopping malls. My colleague’s fourth-grade girl has been practicing synchronized swimming for half a year. Her core is stable enough to do forward rolls on the balance beam, and her strength control is better than that of many boys who practice track and field.
As for traditional Chinese sports, don’t think that these are antiques. Diabolo, shuttlecock kicking, martial arts, dragon and lion dances are all included. Last year, our school invited an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage to teach Tai Chi. Looking at the slow movements, the students were sweating after practicing for more than ten minutes. Each muscle exerted force with precision. Playing a game is no easier than playing ball games.
Emerging sports are closer to the lives of young people. Frisbee, skateboarding, orienteering, and rock climbing are all now included in this category. In the past two months, I formed a team with senior high school students to participate in the city's Frisbee Invitational Tournament. It seemed like throwing and catching plates. When actually playing, you have to practice running routes, passing and receiving, and the concentration requirements are no less than basketball.
If you really follow the professional competitive route, you can completely adjust the classification logic according to your own projects, and you don't have to stick to the standards of the six categories. After all, no matter how you classify, the most practical thing is to practice the skills on your body.
