The core is actually that the anchor logic of fitness behavior is different. Gyms rely on external scenes, rules, and atmosphere to push you into the state, while home fitness relies entirely on internal self-discipline and planning capabilities. No one is absolutely good or absolutely bad. It all depends on personal habits and needs.
I applied for the Shangjian Annual Card three times two years ago. The nearest one was just a 5-minute walk downstairs in the community. When I was too lazy to move at first, I just changed my shoes and went out, walked to the front desk and swiped my card. I was embarrassed to turn around and go home, right? After changing into my sportswear and warming up, I looked up and saw a whole wall of mirrors. I was surrounded by people banging and banging irons. I felt a little embarrassed even if I wanted to fish, so I naturally got better. Not to mention those heavy-weight fixed equipment, such as Smith racks, gantry frames, and adjustable bench presses. Unless your home can spare 20 square meters for a dedicated fitness area, ordinary residents will not be able to put them there. If you want to practice heavy deadlifts, you can't just smash the barbell on the floor tiles, right? Neighbors downstairs have to knock on the door and complain every minute. There is also a hidden benefit for novices to go to the gym. Even if you don't hire a personal trainer, if you don't practice the movements correctly, occasionally you will meet an enthusiastic veteran or a tour coach who can give you a few words of advice. It is better than practicing blindly in front of a video until your knees hurt and then you realize that the movements are wrong.
But don’t think that home fitness is just a piece of cake. I know a sister who runs a marathon. She hasn’t stepped into a gym in three years. She has a small elliptical machine in the second bedroom of her house. She wakes up at 6 o’clock every day and practices for 40 minutes on an empty stomach. Last year, her PB for the North Marathon was increased by 15 minutes. I have enough self-discipline, but it saves me time on going to and from the gym and finding lockers to change clothes, which is very efficient. During the two months of the epidemic lockdown, I practiced at home. The most enjoyable part was that I didn’t have to worry about my image at all. I danced Pamela until I was sweating profusely and looked hideous. I wore loose pajamas and stepped on a yoga mat with my bare feet and no one cared about me. I was really ecstatic. I could drink water when I wanted to drink it in the middle of the practice. I could pause when the courier called for food in the middle. I was so flexible.
In the quarrels on the Internet, some people always say that one party is crushing the other, and that the gym is based on IQ. Most of them are self-disciplined enough, and the fitness goal is not to build muscle with heavy weights. Buying a pair of dumbbells and an elastic band, and doing hip thrusts and shoulder exercises at home are completely sufficient.; People who say that home fitness is useless are mostly those who need to lift weights to gain muscle, or who have poor self-control and cannot move without being pushed. Going to the gym is indeed more efficient. Two of my previous three annual passes were less than 10 times in total. Instead, I started practicing at home for half an hour every night, and my waistline dropped by 4cm in half a year. This was because I didn’t like talking to people, and I was tired of being chased by personal trainers to sell classes. I was much more comfortable at home.
To put it bluntly, it’s like eating. Some people like to go out to restaurants and others like to cook at home. The seasonings in restaurants are all cooked well, and the upper limit of the dishes they can cook is high. It’s comfortable and tastes good at home, and the cost is low. No matter which one you choose, you won’t lose. The most important thing is to be able to keep doing it.
