Manjingzi

　　Vitex is the dried and mature fruit of Vitex trifolia L.var. simplicifolia Cham. or Vitex trifolia L. of the Verbenaceae plant. The single-leaf vitex is mainly produced in Shandong, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian and other provinces; the vitex is mainly produced in Guangdong, Guangxi and other provinces. Harvest the fruits when they are ripe in autumn, remove impurities and dry them in the sun. Use raw or fried.

　　[Properties] Pungent, bitter, slightly cold. Returns to the bladder, liver, and stomach meridians.

　　[Efficacy] Evacuate wind-heat and clear away the head.

　　【application】

　　1. Wind-heat cold, dizziness and headache. This product is pungent, can dispel wind, is slightly cold, clears away heat, is light and ascending, has weak power to relieve external symptoms, and tends to clear away head and face evils. Therefore, it is more commonly used for people with dizziness and headache caused by wind-heat and cold. It is often used together with mint, chrysanthemum and other medicines to relieve wind-heat and clear the head. If wind evil attacks migraine, it is often combined with wind-removing and analgesic drugs such as Chuanxiong, Angelica dahurica, and asarum.

　　2. Red, swollen and painful eyes. This product is pungent and bitter, relieves slight cold, has the function of dispersing wind-heat, clearing the head and eyes, and can be used to treat wind-heat attack, red and swollen eyes, blurred vision and excessive tears. It is often used together with chrysanthemum, cicada slough, white caltrop and other wind-dispelling and eye-improving medicines. This product has properties of improving hair growth and clearing away headaches. It can be used together with medicines such as astragalus, ginseng, cohosh, kudzu root and other qi-tonifying and yang-boosting medicines. It can also treat deficiency of qi, failure to clear yang, tinnitus and deafness, such as Yiqi Smart Decoction ("Guidelines for Syndrome and Treatment").

　　In addition, taking the effect of dispelling wind and relieving pain, this product can also be used to treat rheumatic arthralgia. It can be used with Qianghuo, Duhuo, Chuanxiong and Fangfeng, such as Qianghuo Shengshi Decoction ("Treatise on Differentiating Internal and External Injuries").

　　1. Chemical composition: This product contains volatile oils, the main components of which are pinene and pinene, and also contains vitexin, fatty oil, alkaloids, vitamin A, etc.

　　2. Pharmacological effects: Vitex japonica has certain sedative, analgesic and antipyretic effects. Vitex flavin has antibacterial and antiviral effects. Distilled extract of Vitex leaves can enhance peripheral and visceral microcirculation.

Clinical research: ① 60g of Vitex officinale, 500ml of white wine, stir-fry the Vitex officinale until brown, roll into coarse powder, soak in wine for 3 to 7 days, mix with appropriate amount of cold boiled water, take 700ml of juice, take 50ml each time, twice a day, 7 days as a course of treatment, it has good effect in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia (Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2000, 41(12): 712). ②For the treatment of acute sinusitis, take 12g of Vitex officinale, 10g of Xanthium fructus, 10g of Xin Yi, 10g of Angelica dahurica, 15g of mulberry leaves, and 10g of Platycodon grandiflorum. Add or subtract according to the condition, smoke the nose while it is hot, and take it orally after warming (Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2000, 41(12): 713). ③Take the decoction of Jingzizi and Qingwei Powder, plus 10g of Jingzizi, 30g of gypsum, and 5g of asarum, decoction and gargle, hot and cold for vomiting, no matter how long, it is effective in treating periodontitis (Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2000, 41(12):713). ④Using Jingzi alone as powder, mixed with wine and applied externally, the effect is satisfactory in the treatment of acute mastitis in the early and middle stages (Hunan Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1999, 15(3): 48).
